The Gulf Coast Chapter of the Mississippi Police Benevolent Association and the Police Benevolent Foundation are asking for financial assistance for the family of Jackson County (MS) Deputy Sheriff Michael Jimerson.

On the night of April 1, Jimerson and other deputies responded to a disturbance call regarding a woman walking around an apartment complex playing loud music. Deputy Jimerson was the first officer on the scene and engaged in a foot pursuit of the woman, who pulled out a firearm and began firing at him. Jimerson returned fire, and both he and the suspect were struck in the exchange. The suspect died at the scene. Jimerson was transported to the hospital, where he passed away.

Deputy Jimerson is survived by his wife of 42 years, a son, a daughter, and three grandchildren. His son followed in his father’s footsteps and is a law enforcement officer himself.

According to his obituary, Deputy Jimerson is remembered for the way he lived his life: with a servant’s heart, unwavering loyalty, and a deep love for his family and community. Sheriff John Ledbetter echoed these sentiments: “He had a positive impact on everyone he met. The community loved him. Everybody at the Sheriff’s Department who worked with him loved him.”

100% of the monies received by the PBF will go to Deputy Jimerson’s spouse to help during this tragic time.
