Please Donate To Help Deputy Reedy's Family
The Greater Southwest Chapter of the Virginia Police Benevolent Association and the Police Benevolent Foundation are asking for financial support for the family of Deputy Hunter Reedy, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on August 9th. Deputy Reedy was with the Sheriff's Office of Smyth County (VA).
The incident started when an officer from the Marion Police Department attempted a traffic stop for a moving violation in the town around 5:00 p.m. The vehicle didn't stop immediately but eventually pulled over in the county, where Smyth County deputies became part of the stop. The driver was issued a traffic summons and became extremely agitated. The driver then shot Deputy Reedy who had approached him. Gunfire was exchanged, and the suspect and another deputy were shot. The suspect and deputy survived. The suspect has been charged with aggravated murder and four counts of attempted aggravated murder.
Deputy Reedy was a seven-year veteran of law enforcement. In 2017, he began his career at the Chilhowie Police Department, before transferring to the Sheriff's Office in 2021.
Deputy Reedy leaves behind his wife and three small children.
100% of the funds received by the PBF will go to Deputy Reedy’s family.
