The Mississippi Police Benevolent Association and the Police Benevolent Foundation are asking for financial support for the widow of Officer Troy Floyd, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on August 8th. Officer Floyd was a member of the Summit Police Department.
The shooting happened during a checkpoint near West Railroad Avenue in Summit. According to officials with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, a vehicle approached, and a passenger opened fire, fatally wounding Officer Floyd.
Officers from the nearby agency responded to assist, and two of these officers located the male suspect at a nearby grocery store. They exchanged shots with the suspect. Both officers were wounded, and the suspect was killed.
Officer Floyd was a 20-year veteran of law enforcement.
He is survived by his wife and adult children.
