The Virginia Police Benevolent Association and the Police Benevolent Foundation are asking for financial support for the family of Master Officer Dennis ‘DJ’ Pointer, who retired from the Newport News, Virginia Police Department earlier this year. Pointer was recently hospitalized with a heart attack and has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. DJ lost his battle and passed away on June 25.

A Newport native, Pointer joined the U.S. Army and served as an MP in Germany. He later joined the Police Department. During his career, he served in various assignments and was a specialized instructor in several areas.

In addition to his service to our country and the community of Newport News, Pointer chose to give back to fellow officers through his work with the local chapter of the PBA. Pointer served for twelve years as the Newport News Chapter President. During his time leading the chapter he was known for his honest, forthright, and dedicated leadership. Pointer also served as a valued member of the Virginia Division Board.

Pointer leaves behind his wife Amy, and their two daughters Taylor and Heather. DJ and Amy also has a grandson, John.

100% of the money received by the PBF will go to help his family with medical expenses.
